Manumissions Book, 1772-1786. This volume is filled with the names of Quakers and others who released their slaves and provides the name of their Meeting and names of their slaves. While all the districts of Philadelphia are represented, the greatest number of manumissions came from members of the of the Monthly meeting of Philadelphia (Arch Street)

A monthly meeting at Philadelphia was established along with Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting in 11 mo. 1682/3. In 1772, this meeting was divided, creating Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia for the Northern District and Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia for the Southern District.
